How to set the home page

Setting your home page in Firefox is easy. Can't decide on just one page? No problem. Firefox lets you set a group of websites as your home page. This article will show you how to do that plus set what page opens when you start Firefox and how to put everything back the way it was before you started messing with it.

Set a single web site as your home page

It doesn't get much easier than this!

  1. Open up the web site you want to be your home page.
  2. Click on the icon to the left of the web address, drag it to the Home button and then let go.


  3. Click Yes to set this as your home page.

Now, any time you click the Home button your chosen home page will load in the current tab.

Set more than one web site as your home page

Load up email, news and facebook all at once.
  1. Open a new window and load up the first web site you want to be your home page.
  2. Click the new tab button and open the next web site you want to be part of your home page group.
  3. When you're done opening all of the pages that you want in new tabs, go to the top of the Firefox windowgo to the menu bar, click on the ToolsFirefoxEdit menu, and select Options...Preferences...
  4. Select the General panel (Main panel in Firefox 3.5).
  5. Click on Use Current Pages.


  6. Finally, click OK at the bottom of the Options window to save your settings and close the windowclick Close to close the Preferences windowclose the Preferences window.

Now, any time you click the Home button all of your chosen pages will open up in tabs. Go ahead and close all of your tabs and click the home button to try it out – it's fun!

Control what pages Firefox displays when you open it

  1. At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar, click on the ToolsFirefoxEdit menu, and select Options...Preferences....
  2. Select the General panel (Main panel in Firefox 3.5).
  3. In the Startup box click the drop-down menu next to "When Firefox starts:" and select what Firefox should display when you open it.
    • Show my home page - Displays the home page (or home pages of course).
    • Show a blank page - Displays a blank page (loads fast).
    • Show my windows and tabs from last time - Opens the pages you were visiting the last time you used Firefox. For more information, see Session Restore.
  4. Click OK to save your settings and close the windowClick Close to close the Preferences windowClose the Preferences window.

Restore the default home page

Please put it back the way it was.
  1. At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar, click on the ToolsFirefoxEdit menu, and select Options...Preferences....
  2. Select the General panel (Main panel in Firefox 3.5).
  3. In the Startup box, click Restore to Default.


  4. Click OK to save your settings and close the windowClick Close to close the Preferences windowClose the Preferences window.
